In case of really bad weather in the coast range mountain passes I will arrive if possible but I may be delayed. The most common weather delays are caused by snow or ice in Winter and by downed trees, slides and floods all year 'round. Serious accidents are also moderately common though they seldom cause complete road closure since they mostly consist of single vehicles going off the road and down a drop-off.
This year (2008) parts of Highway 34 have been crumbling and falling into the river. In some areas the shoulder and the fog-line are gone and the edge is under-cut. ODOT has been dumping crushed rock but it is not clear how effective that will be on a steep drop-off. The resulting single lane traffic and construction delays may definitely delay me. I will try to allow extra travel time but sometimes it may not be enough for early meetings or appointments.
If road conditions are bad, say snow or flooding, or predicted to be, I will leave campus as early as possible. In that case office hours are not guaranteed and you should try email.
If you have a cold or the flu, or if I do, you should probably restrict your communication to email.
My campus phone number is (541) 737-5163 (24 hour
messages), but I am not a phone person. When I see the little red light on the phone
blinking I usually find something else pressing to do. If you really want to get my
attention then send me email. I am very fond of email and check it several times a day,
every day, though I can not always answer rapidly. My email address is

The MLC has study tables, testing facilities and a computer lab. The entrance to the MLC Computer Lab is at the South-West end of the MLC. An ONID or a Science account (or one of several other accounts) is required to use the MLC lab.
The MLC will probably be closed on Fridays in the Summer, and be on short hours other days. The MLC is also usually closed on the Friday of exam week, every quarter. The Lab is generally open when the MLC is open, but it may be open other times as well.
