THE LARAMIE PROJECT is a moving examination of the aftermath of the brutal murder of Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming. In October of 1998, twenty-one year old Shepherd, a student at the University of Wyoming was severely beaten, tied to a fence on the outskirts of Laramie and left to die; he was the victim of this assault because he was gay.

Kaufman and members of his Tectonic Theatre Project made six trips to Laramie and interviewed more than 200 people of the town; many were directly connected to the case. From these interviews, they fashioned the drama that is THE LARAMIE PROJECT.

TIME magazine called it one of the ten best plays of the year. The Associated Press called it "Astonishing" and New York Magazine said that the play was "Nothing short of stunning".

There are roles for five men and five women. Auditions are open to all members of the OSU students and to members of the community. Scripts may be checked out from the theatre office, Withycombe Hall. The play is directed by Charlotte Headrick; scene design by George Caldwell and costume design by Barbara Mason.
