Shiao-ling S. Yu, Ph.D. A native speaker of
Chinese, Dr. Yu was educated in Taiwan and the U.S. She received her
Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
in 1983, specializing in modern Chinese literature. Since the 1980s
she has visited China numerous times and conducted research there.
She taught at Ohio State
University and the University
of Kansas before coming to Oregon
State University in 1987. She is currently an associate Professor
of Chinese in the Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures.
The awards which she has received include a Charlotte
W. Newcombe dissertation fellowship from the Woodrow
Wilson National Fellowship Foundation and a translation fellowship
from the National Endowment for the
Arts for her anthology of Chinese drama. She is listed in Directory
of International Biography (published by International Biographical
Centre, Cambridge, England), 1995, 1999; 2000 Outstanding People of
the 20th Century (American Biographical Institute), 1999; Who's Who
Among Asian Americans, 1994-95.
