Scholarships for New Students
The English Language Institute of Oregon State University is pleased to announce the ELI Tuition Scholarship program. These awards provide tuition scholarships to qualifying international students who plan to engage in one or more terms of full-time English study. The awards range in amount between $500 to $1,000 per term.
Students who wish to apply for an ELI Tuition Scholarship must include the following in addition to their regular ELI application forms:
- A cover letter expressing interest in applying for a scholarship and stating the main reasons for wishing to study English at the ELI.
- Two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors or employers.
- Most recent academic institution transcripts.
Scholarship applications must be received at least 45 days prior to the beginning of the first term of study. Scholarships will be granted initially for just one term, but they may be renewable based on strong performance in ELI classes.
Scholarships will apply to ELI tuition only; the cost of OSU fees, student insurance, books and materials remain the personal responsibility of the award recipient. Scholarships will be awarded only for full-time intensive English program students.
Successful applicants usually provide some service to the ELI during the term of their award. Examples of such service include spending some hours each week helping other students in the Learning Center, assisting the Coordinator of Student Services with events, serving as manager of the ELI intramural sports team, serving on the Student Advisory Committee or performing general office work. Applicants are invited to propose their own ideas for types of service.
Scholarships for Continuing Students
A limited number of need-based scholarships for continuing students are also available. Applicants must have completed at least one term at the ELI before applying.
Awards are based on demonstrated need, previous satisfactory academic performance, and willingness to assist with ELI activities during the term of the award.
Application forms are available at the ELI main office. |
