- Try this online grammar and style guide from one of America's foremost authorities on writing.

- Ask a Linguist
- Here's an interesting site that let's you ask a question about English grammar, style, usage, slang, word origins, etc. Your question will be answered by a professional linguist. There is also a list of past questions and answers.
- Research-It!
- This site does lots of things! It has several kinds of dictionaries (including one for pronunciation), a thesaurus, a translator, a currency converter, an acronym "decoder" and much more.
- GeoCities
- Here's a comprehensive, well-organized search engine with handy topics and links to other search engines.
- NewsTracker Home
- This news service finds and "tracks" stories or topics for you in many U.S. and international newspapers. It allows you to catch up on and keep up with topics or issues in which you're interested.

- Getting the Most out of Internet Search Engines (OSU Information Services)
- This online class provides a complete guide to using internet search engines effectively.
- MetaCrawler Searching
- A good, "meta-searcher" which automatically puts your chosen search term into many different search engines (such as AltaVista, Yahoo, and Lycos) at the same time. Easy to use!
- Inference Find
- Here's another good "meta" search engine. This one classifies and organizes the search results in a very helpful manner. It also eliminates duplicate hits. Recommended!

- STPT: Power Searcher
- Another search engine which searches several large databases at the same time.
- Dogpile
- This is a "meta" search engine which automatically puts your chosen search term into many different search engines (such as AltaVista, Yahoo, and Lycos) at the same time. Easy to use!
- Valley Library Electronic Reference Center
- Here's a great place to start your research project. There are links to OASIS (the OSU Valley Library online catalog), various article databases (including Encyclopedia Britannica Online) electronic journals, Oregon newspapers, and many other very useful databases and other resources.
- Britannica On-line
- The on-line version of the venerable Encyclopedia Britannica. Use the search function to find information about your topic. Britannica On-line also provides links to websites relevant to your topic. Extremely useful, but you'll need a password. Try accessing Britannica Online through the OSU Valley Library Electronic Reference Center.

- This is a good site for helping you separate the good, reliable, authoritative, and worthwhile web sites from all of the garbage out there on the internet.

- Historical Text Archive
- AltaVista Translation Service
- This site provides free translation of web pages or text from English to French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian-- or vice versa. The translations are far from perfect; sometimes they're quite laughable--especially when idioms are involved. However, this service can provide a usable starting point for translating documents.
