Background

This website is part of an Eisenhower grant funded through the State of Oregon. The participating departments and school districts in the 2001-2002 grant are:
  • English Language Institute, Oregon State University
  • School of Education, Oregon State University
  • College of Education, University of Oregon
  • Corvallis School District
  • Lebanon School District
  • Lincoln County School District
  • Springfield School District

Purpose of the Project

The purpose of the project is to bring together classroom teachers and ESOL/bilingual professionals in the elementary and middle school levels to develop tools for effective instruction of English language learners. The focus is on math and science instruction in particular. While the grant-funded workshops are designed for the teachers in our four participating districts, we would like to reach out to other interested districts and teachers where possible. Please sign up for the mailing list to find out about current activities.

The school districts in the 2000-2001 grant were Albany, Lebanon, Lincoln County, and Springfield. See more information about the 2000-2001 project.

In the 1999-2000 grant, participating departments at Oregon State University were the English Language Institute, School of Education, and Foreign Languages. The teachers primarily served by the grant were ESL and foreign language teachers in the Corvallis, Albany, and Lincoln County school districts, and pre-service ESL and foreign language teachers at Oregon State University. The purpose of the project was to provide sustained training opportunities for incorporating current second language methodology into the new standards-based proficiency environment. Participants included Oregon State University's School of Education and Foreign Language Professional Teachers Education Program (PTEP) cohort as well as practicing ESOL, Foreign Language, and Bilingual teachers in the Benton, Linn, and Lincoln County school districts. See more information about the 1999-2000 project.
