Appropriate footwear effective in preventing or limiting
injury shall be worn where employees are exposed to conditions that may
cause foot injuries
Specifically, OR-OSHA regulations require foot protection for employees working in areas where there is a danger of foot injury due to
falling or rolling objects, or objects piercing the sole, and where such employee’s feet are
exposed to electrical hazards.
Low-heeled, closed-toe shoes shall be worn in all laboratory
operations where there is a likelihood of exposure to spilled chemicals
Requirements and Purchase - Safety Toe Footwear
Where it is determined by supervisors and EH&S that
employees are exposed to a high risk of foot injuries from falling objects
or crushing actions, employees will be required to wear safety-toe footwear
Safety-toe footwear will meet the requirements and specifications
in ASTM F-2413 and ASTM F-2412.
Employees obtain safety-toe footwear on their own and
are then reimbursed by their departments for an amount equal to the cost of
the shoes or to the cost of the "standard safety shoe" established
by EH&S, whichever is less
Reimbursement for safety shoes will be given only once
a year
