Stems: erect, not rooting at nodes; twigs red-brown, round, smooth, glabrous, rigid.
Leaves: evergreen, opposite; in age clustered on short axillary spur branchlets; stipules thickened, persistent; petioles +/- 1.0 mm; blades narrowly oblanceolate to obovate, (2.0) 3.5--7.0 x 1.0--3.0 mm, bases cuneate, 1-veined, margins not revolute, usually entire, tips toothed, rounded, or notched, abaxially pale green, microscopically canescent between veins, adaxially yellow-green, glabrous, shallowly troughed.
Inflorescences: umbel-like, 1.2--2.1 cm long.
Flowers: pale blue, rarely pinkish-lavender.
Fruits: globose, 3.3 mm broad, smooth, horns 0 or minute, lateral; valve crests 0.
Cytology:
Flowering: in early spring.
Habitat: rocky, deeply weathered gabbroic or pyroxenite-rich n-facing slopes, ridges, chaparral; +/- 600 m.
