Stems: erect, branches long and slender or whip-like and pendulous, not rooting at nodes; twigs gray to red-brown, round, smooth, +/- tomentose, flexible.
Leaves: evergreen; alternate; not clustered; stipules thickened, warty persistent; petioles 2--3 mm; blades cuneate-obovate to obovate, 1.0--2.5 x 0.6--1.3 cm, bases cuneate, 1-veined, margins +/- revolute, entire, tips truncate, usuall y notched, abaxially gray green, microscopically canescent between veins, adaxially, dull-green, glabrous, plane.
Inflorescences: axillary, umbel-like, to 1.3 cm.
Flowers: white or pale lavender, dark centers formed by disks and ovaries..
Fruits: globose, 8-12 mm broad, sticky, horns lateral or dorsal; valve crests 0.

Flowering: in early to late spring
Habitat: dry, brushy slopes, canyons near coast; below 750 m.
