Stems: prostrate to decumbent or ascending, rooting at nodes; twigs gray to red-brown, round, smooth to slightly ridged, glabrous, rigid.
Leaves: evergreen, opposite; not clustered; stipules thickened, persistent; petioles to 2 mm; blades narrowly to widely obovate or oblong, 0.8--2.0 x 0.4--1.2 cm bases cuneate, 1-veined, margins revolute, 2--6 toothed above middle, tips abruptly pointed, truncate, or notched, abaxially white-wooly, adaxially bright green, glabrous, plane.
Inflorescences: axillary, umbel-like, to 2 cm.
Flowers: light to deep blue.
Fruits: globose, 6 mm broad, smooth; horns erect, minute; valve crests 0.
Cytology:

Habitat: chaparral [maritime], valley and foothill grassland on coastal hills, bluffs; below 150 m.
