Following his completion of work on the ceanothuses of California for "The Jepson Manual, Higher Plants of California" he began work on the same genus for the "Flora of North America Project". The herbarium staff have graciously provided space and other assistance so that this work can be accomplished.

Dr. Schmidt's work-in-progress on Ceanothus can be browsed from here.

"In Temperate Spring"

The air distinctly out of focus:
Everywhere Forsythia.

Slopes a wash of Ceanothus;
Grassland with Eschscholzia.

Cornus and azalea,
Arctostaphylos at Idria.

Like the California oak-moth
I'm a mindless Phryganidia.
