How to Connect

The file server access.cws.oregonstate.edu supports editing and uploading content using SFTP, FTP, on-campus Network Shares, or directly via SSH.

SFTP is recommended for all file transfers. SFTP is supported by the SSH client software distributed on the OSUWare CD and many recent HTML editing programs.

FTP is a less secure method for transferring files. FTP transfers must be done in Passive Mode - check your software instructions for information on how to enable Passive Mode.

On-campus users with an ONID account can access a network share from Windows, Mac OS, or Linux. To connect from Windows:

  1. From the Start menu, select Run...
  2. In the Run dialog box, enter:

    \\access.cws.oregonstate.edu

  3. When prompted for a username, be sure to enter your ONID username with the prefix "ONID\" like so:

    ONID\username

  4. Enter your ONID password.

Getting Software

SSH software is provided on the OSUware CD; available to OSU students, faculty, and staff from the Circulation desk in the Valley Library, the Residential Network in Hawley Hall, and the SCF Main computer lab
