Requirements for the English Minor


There are three options for completing the English minor: the General English Studies, the English Literature Minor, and the American Literature Minor. All require a minimum of 27 hours, of which 12 credits must be upper division.

The General English Studies Minor

A. Required sequence (one of the following):
Survey of English Literature (Eng 204, 205, 206)
Survey of American Literature (Eng 253, 254, 255)
Hours Required: 9

B. Upper Division
Pre-1800 Literature
Post-1800 Literature
Hours required: 6 (each)

Additional literature or writing
Hours required: 3

C. Elective hours in upper or lower division
Hours required: 3

Total hours: 27

The English Literature Minor

A. Lower Division
Survey of English Literature (Eng 204, 205, 206)
Hours required: 9

Shakespeare (Eng 201 or 202 or 203)
Hours required: 3

B. Upper Division (English Literature courses)
Pre-1800 Literature
Post-1800 Literature
Hours required: 6 (each)

From any period
Hours required: 3

Total Hours: 27

The American Literature Minor

A. Lower Division (required sequence)
Survey of American Literature (Eng 253, 254, 255)
Hours Required: 9

B. Upper Division
Courses in American Literature Hours
Hours Required: 15

C. Elective hours in upper or lower division literature
Hours Required: 3

Total hours: 27
